Olay Review Part 2

Congratulations to the winner of this post, Lucky # 71:  vmkids

This is sponsored content from BlogHer and Olay.
Wow, so many comments on the last Olay Review!  I’m so surprised to hear everyone’s responses.  I am not the kind of person that notices details.  I see the person, but don’t usually notice anyone’s skin.  But so many of you responded that you are having issues too.  I don’t know why this surprised me so much, but it did!  It actually makes me feel so much better!
olay product
OK so this time around I will tell you when I first started noticing that my skin was changing. I was out to dinner with my extended family. All of the siblings were there and we were just having a ball. I mentioned that I had been noticing some dryness on one spot of my face. I couldn’t figure out what it was from. My siblings all laughed and told me it was an age spot!
WHAT!?
Are you with me on this one? At 30, I was not prepared to hear that I would be seeing signs of aging on my face yet.
Just so you know, my siblings are all older than me so their laughing was not to be mean. They thought it was silly that I didn’t know what it was, and even more than that they were happy I had joined their aging woes!
OK now we are a few more years into these issues. My age spots are not just one dry spot on my face. There are more and they are growing and they are more of a discoloring on my face.
I already have lots of freckles (which I love), isn’t that enough color variation for my face?!
I guess now is the time to kick my butt into gear in having a beauty routine. Up until now, I will admit that I have not had one. I am one of those lucky people that did not (and does not) get acne. I have always had the occasional pimple but that is it. I never even washed my face other than in the shower.
I am really noticing lots of color variation on my face as well as dryness (I used to have slightly oily skin). I know this is all coming about due to getting further and further away from my 20s. ;(

I don’t know what my face has against my 30s but I’m guessing it has something to do with the years of sports out in the sun. Growing up we did not wear sunscreen. Yeah, I’m thinking that has a lot to do with the changes I am seeing in my skin.
I guess when it comes down to it, I feel like my face looks older than I feel it should.
One of the things that I am excited about with the Olay product that I am trying out is it’s claim of, “Gentle Exfoliation that smoothes and evens skin texture”. I never thought a lot about my skin texture before, until now.
I also must admit that I feel somewhat silly talking about aging skin. After all, I am only in my early 30s! However, I guess my thought is that if I don’t start taking better care of my skin now, when I really am older it is going to be too late to do something about it.
When did you first start taking better care of yourself? What is your daily beauty routine? What are your favorite products?

Thank you everyone for all your comments last week!  That sweepstakes ends tonight at 5pm.  But hold onto your pants…I get to give away another $100 Visa gift card (from BlogHer)!!!!

I started thinking about my facial skin at about 20. I lived in the desert and was concerned about wrinkling early. Believe it or not, I used Vaseline, which worked very well. I use a Tea Tree soap to wash my face.

Jessie said...

Most days I'm lucky to get my face washed before bed and moisturizer on in the morning. But, now that I'm in my 30's, I really should start a more reliable routine!

Melissa said...

REALLY need to start a good "face" routine. It's way too easy to rush through getting ready in the mornings and then when it's time for bed it's hard to take the extra couple minutes. Sounds like a great new years resolution.

Anonymous said...

I have such a long beauty routine I think I’m embarrassed. Everyday I brush and floss my teeth and use mouthwash, (true story) I wash my face with Neutrogena every morning, then I apply Aveeno moisturizer, and a foundation Primer, then foundation and concealer, powder, eyeliner, mascara, blush, and lipgloss. Phew! I guess you could say I’m not a natural beauty!

I'm 45 and have been taking EXCEPTIONAL care of my skin since puberty! I'm oily and had terrible problems with acne so I learned to have a routine early! I always clean my face before bed and never forget to use moisturizer! My friends all tell me I look 10 years younger than I actually am and I know it is because I have only missed a handful of nights of my routine in over 30 years. Sunscreen is a must too. One good tip I can give, don't forget your neck and upper chest. They need all the help they can get too!

My routine is to work out, then shower, dry my hair, do my makeup. On my days off, I fix toenail polish, exfoliate with a scrub, etc.

I've been moisturizing daily since I was very young (high school I think) as I have very dry skin. Every few months or so, if I can afford it, I try a new moisturizer and have yet to find the perfect one. Currently I use the basic pink original Olay beauty fluid as a base under any moisturizer I use.

I guess it's a blessing since I don't have wrinkles.

I never thought about getting older and wrinkling until I was about 28 or so. I think plenty of sleep is the real key and then moisturize.

I don't have much of a routine, aside from brushing my teeth and showering every day, etc. I would probably like to get into habits of doing some extra things though.

I've added a sugar scrub to my beauty regimen and its helping my dry skin sooo much!!

I started moisturizing about a year ago. Other than that, I don't really have much of a beauty routine.

I used to be pretty lazy about removing makeup and moisturizing every night. But now I'm in my 40's, no matter how tired I am, I don't go to bed without doing it.

I don't do a whole lot to myself. I know that I should but I just don't seem like I have the time. I take a shower daily, brush my teeth, and blow dry my hair. That's about it. If I have to go somewhere I try and put some foundation on since my skin has gotten so bad lately. thank you!

Somewhere in my 30's I started using moisturizer, and have kept that up somewhat regularly. Don't wear makeup except for eyebrow pencil and liner. If interrupted during this process, I have been known to go through the day with only one eyebrow...

I actually just started taking better care of myself this year when I hit a milestone birthday and no, I'm not going to tell you what it is. :D

I never used a moisturizer until I was in my 30's. Now that I am in my late 40's I find that I am using under eye cream, daily moisturizer with sunscreen and night time moisturizer. I still have yet to find any product that I think does a great job eliminating wrinkles or age spots.

I wash my face and moisturize both morning and night and I always use sunscreen. I try to drink plenty of water and get plenty of rest. I never go to sleep with my makeup on and I take my vitamins. My makeup consists of mineral makeup, blush, eyeliner, mascara, and lip gloss--and I won't even answer the door without them.

I have very fair skin so I've had to take care of it for a long time. I use an exfoliating scrub every day and moisturize my face twice a day.

I just turned 51 a few days ago and I STILL get lots of positive comments on how beautiful my skin is. I wash with my homemade soap (for sale on my blog), which leaves my skin feeling like I had used moisturizer already! Most other soaps are far too harsh and leave your skin feeling dry and needing to use creams and lotions.

I also DO NOT use sunscreen. Yes, you read that right! Vitamin D levels are chronically low today. GET YOUR LEVELS CHECKED TODAY! I do not "sunbathe" either.

And then I also eliminated all hydrogenated oils from our diet as well as all pre-processed food.

I started taking better care of myself when I hit my thirties, when I realized that I couldn't get away with being lax about moisturizing and maintenance. My daily beauty routine consists of moisturizing and going through an elaborate regime for shaving that involves opening the pores with steam and hot towels, applying moisturizing shaving gel, and using a straight razor for the closest shave. I also have begun using leave-in conditioner to increase the health of my hair. Beyond that, my routine involves the usual suspects of brushing/flossing, tweezing, and trimming nails when necessary.

I have been moisturizing my face since I was in high school and I first thought about it...Of course you don't want to wait until you see damage because then it's too late to try and prevent some of it....I moisturize my face and neck everyday without fail and even tho I've done some bad things to my skin, I still look decent and younger :D Yeah!
